Beaver crash at Lake Hood
Author Last Post
It is my opinion that the pilot did not command control of the aircraft. It appears that he may have been a bit inexperienced in the Beaver as he should have been out of the water before that. On his take off run - he never got the plane lined up with the channel, he needed to turn more to the right. Then he picked up the wrong float which started to turn him further away from the channel. It looks like he got scared and put the float back down and then yanked it off and got behind the power curve. He snagged the fence or he might have made it. There was plenty of lake left if he had only lined up properly. Can't be afraid to use those rudders, you have to control the airplane and never let it take that control back.
